Shopping Centre Opens Its Doors to Casual Leasing

Maroochydore Homemaker Centre is opening their doors to a new type of tenant for the first time. The centre is welcoming in casual leasing, with a number of sites available for short-term rent.

Rebecca Gill, Marketing Manager at Maroochydore Homemaker Centre, answered some questions for us.

Q:  Can you tell us about what your shopping centre specialises in?

A: We are the only enclosed bulky goods centre on the Sunshine Coast. With over 900 undercover car parks and air conditioning throughout, we offer a superior shopping experience when shopping for furniture, lifestyle and homeware products. Some of the major stores we have are Harvey Norman, Fantastic Furniture, Nick Scali plus 14 other homemaker retailers – all under the one roof.

Q: What kind of products or services do you think would do well in your centre?

A: Complimentary products and services in the homemaker industry would do well. For example, plumbing, roofing, security screens and awnings, electrical, carpentry, cabinet makers.

Q: What are the busiest times of the week for your centre?

A: The Centre’s busiest days are Monday to Wednesday. We find a great deal of shoppers normally visit the Centre a few times before making a purchase, especially if it is for a big ticket item.

Q: Do the types of shoppers change over the week?

A: There is no solid pattern to the types of shoppers that visit the Centre. We do find that more families visit on the weekends. During heat waves and rain periods we see an increase in traffic flow. Our ample underground parking and air conditioning is a huge point of difference over our competitors that are open air homemaker centres.

Q: Is there anything you would recommend a small business do to increase their sales during the time they are at your centre?

A: From my experience, I would say:

  • Having a great display and offering wonderful customer service goes a long way.
  • If you are selling a product, make sure you have ample stock available for the duration of your stay.
  • Take advantage of social media and any databases you might have to advertise your presence in the Centre.
  • Running special offers or a gift with purchases during the casual lease period, giving shoppers a reason to purchase from you whilst they are at the Centre.

As an introductory offer to casual leasing, Maroochydore Homemaker Centre is offering their sites for only $250 a week including GST. This is a short-term offer and bookings must be made and carried out for the period from 1 March to 30 April 2016.
